House
Concert
|
A House Concert is a concert by David in
your living room or community space for invited guests from your
neighborhood.
David performs house concerts while on tour around the Midwest when he
has an open evening and needs a place to stay for the night!
A true House Concert is literally "singing
for your supper" (and a bed).
Rather than spend the money on a motel and restaurant, many folksingers
will trade a FREE concert for a place to stay while on tour.
The home owner, B&B operator, or
community group or church
provides a space to perform- a living room, back yard or large area and
invites friends who they are comfortable opening their home to.
The host is not required to let strangers in to their homes or
to announce the event in the papers, which makes your home phone and
address "public" unless you choose to.
The point is to have a face-to-face family experience with a
"troubadour" who is passing thru town! Having a "potluck" supper
with everyone bringing food to share is always an added bonus!
Eating and singing together is how we build community. It also gives
folks a chance to talk to the performer as a real person, not just
someone who is "on stage".
It is appropriate to "pass the hat" for
free will donations to help the musician with gas money and for
the performer to sell CDs at the program.
Beware of performers who charge a
"guaranteed fee"
or insist on a set admission! This is NOT a House Concert.
It opens the private residence as a for-profit business
and a whole lot of legal and liability problems.
That and it's not in the true spirit
of a real house concert and folk music.
